Imagine you’ve created a great course structure, but now you want to make a similar course with different content. Instead of rebuilding everything, you can just clone it and tweak the details. LearnDash gives you an easy way to copy your existing courses, lessons, topics and quizzes with just one click of a button.
WARNING: The built-in Clone feature is the only recommended option for cloning in LearnDash. Third-party cloning or duplication plugins can cause issues with course data, quiz settings, and step associations. For the most reliable results, always clone your content directly within the LearnDash LMS interface.
How to Clone My Courses, Lessons, Topics, and Quizzes #
Cloning with LearnDash is quick and easy:
- Go to LearnDash LMS, select whether youd want to clone a course, lesson, topic or quiz.

2. Scroll and hover your mouse on the course, lesson, topic, or quiz that you want to clone
3. Click Clone on the options below.
Once thats done, a status message will appear on top saying that the course, lesson, topic, or quiz was cloned successfully. Sometimes it takes a while for a whole course to be cloned, so you may have to refresh the page a couple of times.

The cloned item will have the title “Copy of” added to the beginning of the original title.
NOTE: If Shared Course Steps is turned on, cloning an entire course will only copy the course itself, not its course steps (lessons, topics and quizzes). In other words, if you clone a Course, the Lessons, Topics and Quizzes will move over, but they are not actually cloned. So if you edit the lesson/topics/quiz within the cloned course, it will edit it globally.
For Example: Suppose you have Shared Course Steps enabled and you want to create a new course that also includes a specific lesson on Color Theory.
- Clone the Course: Clone your existing Basic Art Concepts course that includes the Color Theory lesson.
- Shared Content: Because Shared Course Steps is enabled, the cloned course will share the Color Theory lesson from the original course. Any changes you make to this lesson will show up in both courses.
This setup is ideal if you want consistent content across multiple courses. Just remember, because the lesson is shared, editing it will affect all courses using that lesson.
Cloning an entire course will include all the lessons, topics, and quizzes within that course. However, if you clone just a single lesson or topic, the associated topics or quizzes wont be copied along with it.
After youve cloned a course, lesson, topic, or quiz, double-check the settings to make sure theyre still correct. This includes things like featured images, password protection, and quiz settings to prevent confusion for your users.
Currently, these quiz settings may fail to transfer over when cloning:
- Quiz Prerequisites
- Restrict Quiz Retakes
- Additional Question Options – Question Category
Be sure to review and update these settings on your cloned quizzes.
