Explore setting up questions &amp; answers, awarding points, hints, categories, options available for each question type, and more.<\/p>\n<h2>Access Questions<\/h2>\n<p>Every question you use in any quiz across your site is stored in one central location. While you can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/docs\/core\/quizzes\/quiz-builder\/\">quiz builder<\/a> to add questions &amp; configure your entire quiz, you can also modify questions on their own, dedicated page.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate to LEARNDASH LMS &gt; QUESTIONS<\/li>\n<li>Click on any question to open it&#8217;s edit page<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Filter Questions<\/h2>\n<p>LearnDash gives you the ability to filter your questions in a number of ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>by <a href=\"#choose_question_type\">question type<\/a><\/li>\n<li>by <a href=\"#question_categories\">question category<\/a><\/li>\n<li>by the quiz it is assigned to (you can also view questions that are unassigned)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-questions-filter-animation.gif\" rel=\"How to filter LearnDash quiz questions\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2673 size-full\" title=\"How to filter LearnDash quiz questions\" src=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-questions-filter-animation.gif\" alt=\"How to filter LearnDash quiz questions\" width=\"808\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Use the filter bar across the top of the <strong>All Questions<\/strong> page:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Choose the filters you want<\/li>\n<li>Click the &#8220;Filter&#8221; button<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Choose Question Type<\/h2>\n<p>When creating a new quiz question, one of the first things you&#8217;ll want to do is choose your question type. LearnDash offers the following question types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Single choice<\/li>\n<li>Multiple choice<\/li>\n<li>Free choice<\/li>\n<li>Sorting choice<\/li>\n<li>Matrix sorting choice<\/li>\n<li>Fill in the blank<\/li>\n<li>Assessment (survey)<\/li>\n<li>Essay (open answer)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To select your question type, look for the <strong>Answer type<\/strong> box in the sidebar. Points are available for all question types, and the points field is required for all questions. The default for the points field is set to <code>1<\/code>, and is customizable to your preference. Points are only awarded when the question is answered correctly.<\/p>\n<p>Points can also be <a href=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/docs\/core\/quizzes\/quiz-display\/#additional_question_options\">hidden in your quiz display settings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2505 \" src=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-questioin-choose-points-to-be-awarded.jpg\" alt=\"Choose points to be awarded for a question\" width=\"479\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-questioin-choose-points-to-be-awarded.jpg 632w, https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-questioin-choose-points-to-be-awarded-400x349.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 479px) 100vw, 479px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition to whole numbers, users can utilize <strong>decimal points and negative numbers <\/strong>in the grading system.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Decimal Points<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Decimal points allow users to enter fractional values (numbers with decimal places) in the grading system.<\/li>\n<li>Decimal points are supported for all question types except for <strong>Assessment questions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Negative Points<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Negative point values allow users to deduct points for incorrect answers.<\/li>\n<li>Negative points are <strong>not supported <\/strong>for <strong>Essay\/Open Answer <\/strong>questions and <strong>Assessment <\/strong>question types. Users cannot assign negative scores to these specific question types.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This flexibility allows for more precise scoring, especially when dealing with partial credit or nuanced answers. The points system plays a crucial role in assessing learners performance, and the ability to use decimal points and negative numbers enhances its accuracy.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/learndash-decimal-points.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6499\" src=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/learndash-decimal-points.png\" alt=\"LearnDash Decimal Points\" width=\"283\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"note\"><strong>NOTE<br \/>\n<\/strong>For quiz questions with different points per answer, decimal values are limited to two decimal places.<\/p>\n<p>To adjust points for a question:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Find the <strong>Points<\/strong> box in the sidebar (You also have the option to customize the points awarded for each question in the quiz builder. Please see <a href=\"\/support\/docs\/core\/quizzes\/quiz-builder\/#points-1\">this page for instructions<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li>Update the number of points to be awarded<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like to award different numbers of points based on the specific answer given:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Check the <strong>Different points for each answer<\/strong> box<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Answers<\/strong> box, where you add your answers, you&#8217;ll see a box labeled &#8220;Points&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Enter the number of points to be awarded for each specific answer (You can also set different points for each answer via the quiz builder. They are completely optional but can help direct a user in the right direction when answering a question. When enabled, a button will appear below the question. Clicking that button will reveal a popup with the hint.<\/p>\n<p>To enable a hint for a question:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On the Edit Question screen, scroll down to the <strong>Hint<\/strong> box<\/li>\n<li>Check the box to <strong>Activate hint for this question?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Enter your hint in the box<br \/>\nHints use the classic WordPress editor, so you can include images, lists, formatting &amp; custom HTML.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Quiz Question Types<\/h2>\n<h3>Single Choice<\/h3>\n<p>Single choice means there is <strong>only one correct answer<\/strong>. This is the most common question format for standardized tests. In order for the question to be marked correct, users must select <strong>ALL<\/strong> of the correct answers. You can choose between two types of essay questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Text Box:<\/strong> Displays a <code>&lt;textarea&gt;<\/code> form field for the user to enter any text they&#8217;d like.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Upload:<\/strong> Displays an upload button that allows the user to upload a file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2529 \" src=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-question-essay-two-types-admin.jpg\" alt=\"2 types of LearnDash essay questions\" width=\"552\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-question-essay-two-types-admin.jpg 668w, https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-question-essay-two-types-admin-400x183.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Essays come with 3 options for how they are graded after the quiz is submitted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Not Graded, No Points Awarded:<\/strong> The essay question is submitted and awaiting a grade. The final quiz grade will be displayed as &#8220;Pending&#8221; to the user.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not Graded, Full Points Awarded:<\/strong> Awards full points for the essay submission, but its status remains &#8220;Not Graded.&#8221; An admin can grade the essay at a later date, and adjust the awarded points.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Graded, Full Points Awarded:<\/strong> Automatically mark the essay as &#8220;Graded&#8221; and award full points.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2530 \" src=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-question-essay-grading-options-admin.jpg\" alt=\"LearnDash grading options for essay questions\" width=\"575\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-question-essay-grading-options-admin.jpg 742w, https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/learndash-question-essay-grading-options-admin-400x197.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Options for showing messages for correct or incorrect answers should not be filled in for Essay\/Open questions since it is user submitted and cannot be graded at the time of submission.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Course Progression<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A user can only progress if the following two things are true:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The essay is marked as &#8220;Graded,&#8221; and<\/li>\n<li>The user has enough quiz points to move on (configured in the quiz&#8217;s settings)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"note negative\"><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong><br \/>\nIf no points are immediately awarded for the essay, this (temporarily) counts against the final score. If the total points obtained from the other quiz questions meets the passing threshold, the user can continue with the course. If you are having issues, please check with your host first.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Quiz Scores and Answers<\/h2>\n<p>Administrators can view overall quiz scores for students with the built-in <a href=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/docs\/reporting\/user-data\/\">LearnDash reporting<\/a> and with <a href=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/docs\/reporting\/propanel\">ProPanel<\/a>. Individual answers to questions can be viewed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/docs\/reporting\/user-data\/#quiz_statistics\">Quiz Statistics<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"note\"><strong>NOTE<br \/>\n<\/strong>The <strong>Quiz Statistics<\/strong> option must be turned ON in order for data to be gathered.<\/p>\n<p>If the<strong> Quiz Statistics<\/strong> option is turned on in the Quiz settings, your users will be able to view their previous answers in two ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Immediately after taking the quiz: <\/strong>Immediately after taking the quiz, and the user wants to review their answers, click on the &#8220;View Questions&#8221; button.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Via the user&#8217;s profile page:<\/strong> If the user wants to view their previous quizzes&#8217; responses and answers, including essays, they need to go to their &#8220;Profile&#8221; or &#8220;My Account&#8221; page and click on the paper icon under the &#8220;Statistics&#8221; column.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3907\" src=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Quiz-statistics-preview-old-quizzes-1.png\" alt=\"Quiz statistics icons on the profile page\" width=\"1499\" height=\"938\" srcset=\"https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Quiz-statistics-preview-old-quizzes-1.png 1499w, https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Quiz-statistics-preview-old-quizzes-1-400x250.png 400w, https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Quiz-statistics-preview-old-quizzes-1-800x501.png 800w, https:\/\/learndash.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Quiz-statistics-preview-old-quizzes-1-768x481.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1499px) 100vw, 1499px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you have turned off the <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Quiz Statistics <\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">setting on your quiz, all the data captured during the time the setting was turned off will not be captured nor attributed to a specific user. Also, even if that option is turned on after the quiz is taken, the setting is not retroactive. Meaning, the data will still not be attributed to a user in the <strong>Quiz Statistics<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Conversely, if the <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Quiz Statistics<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> setting is initially on and you turn it off, your users will still be able to view their logged answers for that particular quiz.
